The Italian Film Festival of St. Louis, sponsored by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Chicago, Washington University’s Program in Film and Media Studies, and the National Italian American Foundation (www.niaf.org) will feature the St. Louis premier of six recent Italian films: La bestia nel cuore (Don’t Tell) by Cristina Comencini on Friday, March 30, 2007 (120 minutes), Il mio miglior nemico (My Best Enemy) by Carlo Verdone on Saturday, March 31 (115 minutes), La febbre (The Fever) by Alessandro D’Alatri on Friday, April 6 (108 minutes), Romanzo criminale (Crime Novel) by Michele Placido on Saturday, April 7 (130 minutes), Alla luce del sole (Come Into The Light) by Roberto Faenza on Friday, April 13 (90 minutes), and La terra (Our Land) by Sergio Rubini on Saturday, April 14 (112 minutes) at 8 p.m.

La bestia nel cuorewhich was nominated for the 2006 Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film, deals with a young woman’s dark childhood memories.Il mio miglior nemico is a comedy where love, jealousy and betrayal all play a part in a volatile mix of events that twist and turn to a surprising ending.

La febbre focuses on a young man’s struggles in realizing his entrepreneurial dreams in modern-day bureaucratic Italy. Romanzo criminale, a blockbuster hit in Italy, follows a group of young criminals over a twenty-five year period, from the 1970’s, as they scheme to conquer the underworld of Rome; their ruthless activities are inseparably intertwined with the dark history of modern Italy: terrorism, kidnappings and corruption at the highest levels of government.

Alla luce del sole recounts the real-life story of Father Giuseppe Puglisi, who tried to help the poor of his hometown parish in Brancaccio, Sicily; but his efforts placed him in a position of conflict with the local mafia powers.La terra focuses on four estranged brothers who, after many years of separation, reunite to decide if they should sell the family farm.

All films will be shown in 35mm in Italian with English subtitles in the 346 seat theatre in Brown Hall 100 on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis at 8 p.m. Admission is FREE and open to the general public.
