THE ACTOR
Frank Sinatra appeared in 58 movies, winning an Oscar for his performance as Maggio, the doomed G.I. in ''From Here to Eternity'' (1953). He played everything from a shy sailor in ''Anchors Aweigh'' (1945) to a tough Army investigator in ''The Manchurian Candidate'' (1962), a tormented drug addict in ''The Man With the Golden Arm'' (1955) and a daring prisoner of war in ''Von Ryan's Express (1965).
