AIDA- Italian American Prejudice/Discrimination Research

[Please pass this on to any and all compatriots]

Subject: Italian American Prejudice/Discrimination Research

Raeleen D'Agostino Mautner, Ph.D.as Research Director for AIDA (American Italian Defense Association), is in the process of gathering  preliminary data for survey research, relating to Prejudice/Discrimination against Italian Americans.

Dr. Mautner has been a Psychology/Research Methods professor, and took a sabbatical this past semester, in order to continue writing and lecturing in the
US and Italy.

Dr. Mautner writes:

I am currently about to undertake a research study, to investigate the depths of prejudice and discrimination toward people of Italian heritage in the US.

I am trying to document the effects of media stereotyping of Italian Americans in concrete terms. How is it (or is it) impacting us in various sectors of society.....
in areas of employment, for instance, or academia, social relationships, etc.

My goal is to document this in a systematic way, so that we can figure the nature of the problem and the solution.

If you have felt prejudice or discrimination (attitudes or actions) by virtue of your being Italian-American, please tell me about it. I will not use any names.

To gather some preliminary data I am looking for experiences you may have had in the workplace, school setting, political scene, dating, community relationships, professioal relationships, healthcare, social settings, law enforcement ---anywhere
off-beat comments might have been made, or discriminatory action taken, such as being passed up for a job promotion because of your ethnicity, etc.

Please Email your story to me at:  radm@att.net
