Book: "Coppa Monte" by John Mango-- Immigrants from Moiano/Naples

Thanks to Nicoloa at Italia America.org

COPPA MONTE vividly tells the story of the migration of Italians from Moiano, a small Italian village not far from Naples. It concentrates primarily on one family; their life in Italy and their adjustment to America.

The title, "Coppa Monte" means up the mountain and is an appropriate title for a book about immigrants coming to America. Though it meant working the land up the mountain in Italy, it also meant carving out a new life in a new land for those who left Italy.

John Mango's book, "Coppa Monte" tells a poignant and heart warming story of his family; their reasons for leaving Italy and their intense battle to succeed despite great adversity. The author describes life on the immigrant ships, arriving at Ellis Island and the first impressions of New York City. He tells of the work that had to be done to survive and to save enough money to send home to Italy so their families there could have a better life. He tells about the work the immigrants had to do; work so difficult and unsafe that no one else wanted to it except these brave people. This is an important story that should not be lost lest we forget the great contribution make by these people to the formation of America.
