Help!: Searching for Info about Italian POW's in USA in WWII

Thanks to H-ITAM@H-NET.MSU.EDU, Dominic Candeloro, Editor

If you can help in any even small way, please contact Professor Joseph V. Ricapito at  [ricapito@lsu.edu]

Professor Joseph V. Ricapito states:
My question is:  I know that during the Second World War Italian prisoners of war were housed in prison camps in New York City and San Bernardino,California.

I witnessed the Italian prisoners in NYC because families could take the prisoners for a day and then return them at night (for dinner or for whatever they wanted to share with them).  They wore Khakis with a green insignia stating "Italy" on their sleeve just like an American soldier would wear his unit patch.

I also met a man in Southern California who was interned in a prison camp for Italians in San Bernardino, Calif.

My question is:  where can I find out where these camps were and any other
information about the experiences of Italian prisoners of war in America.

There it is in a nutshell.  I sent a letter to the department of Military History of West Point but have not received an answer.

I teach Italian, Spanish and Comparative Literature here at Louisiana State
University.

Thank you in advance for your help,
Professor Joseph V Ricapito [ricapito@lsu.edu]
