Europe, and particularly Italy has a tradition of temperance, so on New Years Eve,
you will not find Italians engaging in the infamous American New Year's Eve rite of getting stupid drunk, instead 85% of Italians will spend the evening with Family.

In Seven different Locales in Rome, other Italians will be enjoying an Abundance of Riches of Entertainment Spectaculars.



IN ROME A NIGHT MARKED BY SOBRIETY AND SOLIDARITY

(AGI) - Rome, Italy, Dec. 31 - New Year's Eve in Rome - "an evening marked by sobriety, out of respect for the suffering of, and in solidarity with the populations of countries devastated by the tidal wave" Mayor Walter Veltroni will begin ceremonies at 10:30pm contemporaneously at the:

City Centre the first parts of the show thought up by Valerio Festi
"The City in Flight - Appearances and disappearances in the Roman Sky".

Via Veneto, near Via Bissolati, the great parade 'Roman Holidays' sets off, an unusual procession of elephants, hornets and giraffes. The parade goes from Piazza Barberini, Via del Tritone and arrives at...

Piazza San Silvestro where the show 'Fortune in the Sky', dedicated to alchemy.

Piazza del Popolo the evening begins with the presentation of 'Mistletoe in Film', a projection of the most famous kisses in cinema history.

Piazza Augusto Imperatore will be the 'Poem of the Fourth Element', tango and water on moving stages.

Beginning from 11.00pm, in

Piazza San Silvestro, Cinzia Cona's company will perform 'Memory of an Island', a dance dedicated to the Mediterranean.

Piazza del Popolo, 'Neverneverland' a show dedicated to Peter Pan will begin, with tightrope walkers and images projected onto inflatable screens.

Piazza Augusto Imperatore there is a tango performance with 'Milonga'.

Midnight will be celebrated in three squares. The shows will carry on until about 1.30am.

At the same time, at Cinecitta', alternating on the campus with: Ora X Capodanno 005, a project that is born from cooperation with Rome Borough X and that sees shows by Torpedo, Assalti Frontali, Bluvertigo, Caparezza and Sud Sound System, some of the most interesting bands on the Italian scene, including reggae, sophisticated pop and hip hop, presented by the comic duo, Till Receipt.

Also at Fiera di Roma (Via Cristoforo Colombo 293) there will be a celebration not just with dancing but also solidarity. Amore 05 will have house, underground, electronic, commercial, break-beat, drum'n'bass, and reggae, with performances and video installations, in a project put together by Amit, Goa Ultrabeat, Brancaleone, One Love Hi Powa and Gay Village & Venus Rising.

AND then on New Years Day, January 1 will be the kids time to party again in Piazza del Popolo, the scene of the Children's New Year.

This celebration which has become a real and proper rite for the smallest and for many people of every age, will begin at 2.30pm. Thanks to the interventions by Valerio Festi, the new year will begin with 'Pizzicaluna' under the sign of the Little Prince of Antoine de Saint-Exupe'ry and his fantastic journeys. Piazza del Popolo will have clowns, clowns, tightrope walkers, angels in the sky and a parade of people dressed up as animals and there will be acrobatic shows. Fun is assured in this great waking dream.

The Limited Traffic Zone for non residents will be in operation from 9.00pm on 31 December until 7.00am on Saturday 1 January.

Furthermore, the whole area of the show will be pedestrianised.

On the occasion of the end of year celebration for 2004 in the city centre, the metro will carry on on both lines until 2.30am and will resume normal service at 8.00am on 1 January 2005.
