Italians in Canada: 5th Largest Ethnic Population, 3rd most Spoken Language

The ANNOTICO Report

Many of us Italian Americans, not only are not aware of the Italian
Experience in the different regions of the US; Fishing, Coal Mining,
Railroad, Row Crops, Vineyards, Produce, in addition to the Urban
experiences, but are also unaware of the extent of Italian Immigration to
our neighbor to the North.

[Perhaps at a later date, I can further address the substantial Immigration
to Brazil, Argentina,Venezuela, and Mexico, which would have made the
transition easier, because of Italian being so much closer to Spanish and
Portuguese, than to English.]

These Statistics are for Canada in 2001 when the Population was 29.6
million.In 2005, it is 32 million.

For purposes of Comparison, The US Population today is 295 million.
US Population is therefore approximately 10 times that of Canada.
Canadian Americans are 4%, whereas Italian Americans are 5.5% - 9%
(Depending on whether calculations are based on 16 or 26 million).
