The ANNOTICO Report
Instead of Italian American Organizations spending so
much money on
Scholarships that benefit the few, and Do Not require
that person to
contribute ANYTHING in Return to the Italian American
Community, those
organizations such as NIAF, OSIA, UNICO could serve the
Italian American
Community better by providing information to the ENTIRE
Italian American
Community about the availability of federal financial
aid, scholarships,
loans and other funding sources, as Rep. Capuano is doing
as described
below.
The Italian American Community must learn to use it's
Limited Resources
more Effectively. Such Seminars are very cost/effective.
Also providing an Internet Database that ALL Italian
Americans can connect
to would be wise, and would make their Web Site
more of an attraction, and make them more responsive
to an important need.
The IA Orgs Must consider how can each of their Expenditures
Benefit the
Greatest Number of Italian Americans, not just a favored
few that have
"connections". State and Local Chapters could hopefully
adopt such a
Project, and go beyond their "beloved" meat ball and
spaghetti dinners.
And while we are talking about Limited Financial Resources,...when
are
these IA organizations going to wise up and stop trying
to BUY Acceptance
in their Community by expending their Money and Efforts
on NON Italian
American/Italian purposes????

U.S. Rep. (8th District, Mass.)
Mike Capuano will host "Paying for an
Undergraduate Education," a panel discussion to help
educate prospective
students about the resources available to finance a college
education. It
will take place Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m. to noon, in
the main
administration building at Emmanuel College, 400 The
Fenway in Boston.
Discussion participants will
include representatives from Emmanuel
College, UMass-Boston, Citizens Bank, the Massachusetts
Educational
Financing Authority and Somerville High School.
"The price tag for a college
education is steadily climbing, making it
difficult for many families to meet the cost of tuition.
This forum is
designed to provide parents and students with information
about the
availability of federal financial aid, scholarships,
loans and other
funding sources," said Capuano.
The forum is open to the public.
For more information, call Capuano's
district office at 617-621-6208.
