Monticello Raceway’s Heritage Drivers Series will continue on Monday, June
20 with a race for drivers of Italian descent which will be dubbed the
Godfather Pace.

It will be the sixth leg of the year-long series which began on January 17
with the Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Pace for African-American drivers
which was won by General “Bubba” Washington.

Monticello Raceway’s Director of Racing, Eric Warner, is now in the process
of seeking Italian-American drivers for the Godfather Pace.

“We have quite a few Italian-American drivers who race with us on a regular
basis but we still need eight to fill the event,” Warner said.

“Anyone interested in competing, or for further information please call me
in the racing office at 845-794-4100 ext. 557.”

The second Heritage Drivers Series event was the Lady Godiva Pace for women
drivers on Valentines Day, February 14, which was won by Sherry Urquidez.

In March, on St. Patrick’s Day, the St. Paddy Pace for Irish-Americans saw
John McDermott drive the winner and in late April, Mark Liebowitz scored a
victory in the Passover Pace for drivers of Jewish heritage during the
Passover Holiday season.

The most recent event, on May 23, was the Pope Benedict Pace for drivers of
German Heritage, which won by Bruce Aldrich Junior.

That race was named in honour of the new Pope who was the former Cardinal
of Munich.

After the Godfather Pace is presented on June 20, two other heritage
drivers events are planned; one in July for drivers of English ancestry;
and one in August for drivers of Canadian extraction.

In late September the winners of each Heritage Drivers Series event will be
invited to compete in the series finale--the United Nations Pace.
