9/14/01

I have been silent through this all, as I am still stunned.
Please allow me to interject this personal observation, which I
would not have shared, if it were not for the accompanying message
I received. Please be tolerant if you disagree with the emphasis.
My clarity is not currently at it's best.

During the mourning and recovering from the Terrorist Tragedy,
We are Americans All.

It would be an oversight however not to recognize that in the greater
NYC Area, Italian-Americans represent one of the largest ethnicities.

Thus, the I-A Community is likely to take a heavier toll as victims,
but it also appears that I-As represent an unusually high turnout
as rescue and recovery workers, and volunteers.

We offer our greatest compassion to ALL those who grieve, and
extend our sincerest thanks to those who assisted in the rescue
and recovery, and take pride in the I-A Community's contribution.

It seems appropriate to share this message from Richard Grace,
of the Grace Co., and also Executive VP of the Coalition of Italian
American Associations [of Greater NYC] (CIAA) that he sent to his
Employees, and shared with me.
I hope I am not breaking a confidence.

From Richard Grace

I just received this Email from my daughter Dianna.  I thought you
would like to see this.  We at GRACE are certainly proud of all our
men who are in dangers way.  We all pray for all those who are
missing, their families, friends, and all those who are in harms way.
Many of you do not realize how precarious the situation is down there.
Not only are the buildings still standing on the verge of collapse but
also there is 5 floors underground that still may yet collapse.
======================================
Dad
I wanted you to know that I just received a phone call from an old
friend who is a fireman in Manhattan.  He called in the middle of all
this chaos to tell us that our men have been amazing and even
though he has lost so many friends he needed to let us know how
thankful he was to us.
Love you
Dianna ~
