SHARM EL-SHEIKH: CONTI AN EMIGRANT IN PAST
(AGI) - Catania, Italy, July 23 - Sebastiano Conti, the young man from Aci
Castello (Catania) killed in the Sharm El Sheikh bombings, had also been an
emigrant: his search for a job took him away from Sicily, until a couple of
years ago, when he was hired at a mall at Emmezeta di Riposo, at the foot
of Mt. Etna. Sebastiano Conti and his wife Daniela had been on holiday to
Spain on several occasions, with their family, just as they did now in
Sharm el Sheikh. (AGI) -

SHARM EL SHEIKH WORTH 500 MLN EURO FOR ITALIAN TOURISM
(AGI) - Rome, Italy, July 23 - Sharm el Sheikh has been for year the main
destination of the Red Sea riviera, "where Italian tourists are first among
Europeans, totalling 650-700,000 visitors a year, worth a 500 mln euro
turnover" said ASTOI (tour operators association) president Giuseppe
Boscoscuro. "The offers cost about 700 euro on average, possibly up to 1000
euro in August, but starting from 500 euro. The only drop of the year is in
December-January".

Other renowned resorts in the area are Marsa Alam, Hurghada, El Quseir.
"Over the past years, the number of tourists in Egypt passed from 800,000
in 2003 to 1 mln in 2004, and this year it should be the same. After the
bombings in Taba, bookings dropped by 20-25 pct, until January, and then
went back up". There are 89 airports in Egypt, mainly reached by charter
flights such as Eurofly, Air One and Blu Panorama, whose called-off
bookings now reached 80 pct of the total. (AGI) -

SHARM EL SHEIKH, UCOOI: BOMBINGS NOT TO BE DEFINED ISLAMIC
(AGI) - Rome, Italy, July 23 - The Union of Islamic Communities and
Organisations in Italy (UCOII) firmly condemns the Sharm el Sheikh
bombings, but asks not to consider them Islamic: "it is just blind
terrorism that savagely strikes upon everyone, Muslims and Christians.
Nonetheless, it keeps on being defined Islamic, even when most of the
victims of these attacks are Muslims. We are not to step back before this
strategy of terror, but we must not derange public opinion, especially
after the bombings of this July.

Once again, we reassert our condemnation to a terror that has nothing to do
with the Islamic laws and doctrine. Those who say they act in the name of
Islam are liars and enemies of Islam itself. Whilst mourning the losses of
our Egyptian brothers and of all the victims, we reassert our commitment
for peace, and express our solidarity to Italy for the threats received,
and we thwart the actions of those who irresponsibly exploit the situation
to foster hatred and xenophobia. We hope all men and states will find the
righteous solution to put an end to this massace, and revive the hopes of
frienship in the Mediterranean". (AGI) -
