Peter Pace; Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Testifies on Italian Immigrant Parents

The Annotico Report

Marine General Peter Pace, recalled his Italian parents' struggles when they arrived in the United States, during a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee. His testimony, while focusing on the role of immigrants in the military, was to be used as leverage in an attempt to gain "amnesty" for ILLEGAL Immigrants

While I have great admiration for General Pace, I do not agree with the role he is being forced to play.

My reasons are:

The First Responsibility of a Country is to Defend it's Borders, whether the Invasion be by Military Action or Illegal Immigrants.

A country has a Right to determine WHO they  permit to immigrate, to serve it's Purposes, whether it is to protect it's Culture, or to promote Diversity.

Every Country MUST have  Policies that obstruct entrance to those whose intent is Civil Chaos, are carriers of Diseases, have Criminal Backgrounds, do not have the capability to be Self Supportive, and NOT drain limited Public Resources, etc, etc.....

The statement that we are an Immigrant Nation, is NOT true, We WERE an Immigrant Nation, BUT a LEGAL Immigrant Nation!!!!!!!

In 1840 the USA had a population of 17 Million, and we had an"empty" country. and the US  started an ambitious  "outreach" program, that 40 years later, adopted the "Give Me Your Poor, Your Tired, Your Huddled Masses longing to be Free..."  AD CAMPAIGN, which was a portion of an Emma Lazarus poem "The New Colossus," written in 1883, (inscribed on the Statue of Liberty in 1903).

The Immigration Campaign was SO overly successful that early in the new century Congress attempted to pass some Immigration Reform, and was unsuccessful until 1917, with the Johnson Act, and 1921 with the Johnson-Reed Act, Congress passed STRICT Immigration Reform, when we had reached a population of 105 Million, (Growth of 6x in 80 years). In 2006 the USA has a population of 300 Million. Yet, while we are suffering from OVER population, people with agendas continue to quote long outmoded slogans with teary eyes.

Most of the 6 Billion people on the Planet would like to Immigrate to the USA to better their economic situation. If we expect to maintain a Diversity, rather than become Mexico North, and If we are to be more worldly in our Interests of the poor of the World, we can Not allow an unfiltered stream of people from Merely our southern neighbor.

The Myth  that the Mexicans do only jobs that Americans is a MYTH. Only 14% work in Agriculture. Most of the others are in Construction or Services Industry, in which they are able to drive down the Hourly Rates and Worker protections

It is NOT a Myth that MECHA (Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan) - which has more than 300 chapters at U.S. colleges, and  its 1969 El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan is a separatist call for the "Reconquest"  of the Aztlan Empire, which is the entire Southwest USA, lost in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848) resulting from the US- Mexican War, and to annex it to Mexico. Those who don't like the sound of "Reconquest" prefer to term it "Re-Mexicanization"

MIAMI  The nation's top general Monday tearfully recalled his Italian parents' struggles when they arrived in the United States, and senators said his emotional testimony could help them gain leverage in the battle over changing the nation's immigration laws.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Peter Pace, a Marine general who has served in Vietnam and Somalia, testified at a special field hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee. It was designed to highlight the role of immigrants in the military.

"My dad came here, sometimes worked three jobs, but the jobs were there for him and the opportunities were there for him," Pace said. "There is no other country on the planet that affords that opportunity to those who come."

He told the five senators that the first Marine he lost as a rifle platoon leader in Vietnam was an immigrant! .

"I still owe those who served with me in Vietnam," he said.

Committee Chairman John W. Warner (R-Va.) brought the hearing to Miami to build support for the Senate's immigration bill, which offers a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants who pay fines and back taxes and who pass background checks. That bill differs from an enforcement-only House measure that would increase fines on employers who hire illegal immigrants and would make illegal immigration a felony.

The hearing was particularly important because Senate and House members will meet soon to find a compromise, said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Also testifying Monday was Medal of Honor recipient Alfred Rascon, who told senators none of his fellow soldiers cared whether he was an immigrant when he threw himself on wounded comrades to shield them from bullets and grenade blasts in Vietnam.

"These men who fought with me and died beside me never asked my legal status," said Rascon! , a Mexican immigrant who became a citizen after serving in Vietnam. He went on to become director of the Selective Service System.

The hearing was in Miami-Dade County, where more than half of the residents were born outside the United States....
