The Internet: Answer to Our Children Embracing their Italian Heritage;

Cyber Books: One Small Step: "Italian-Americans & Their Communities of Cleveland"

The ANNOTICO Report

The Future for the Enlightenment of the Italian American Community relative to its Italian Culture and Heritage, and the Italian American Experience is THE INTERNET.

I applaud efforts to build "brick and mortar" Cultural Centers locally, for community interaction, BUT the FUTURE of  ENLIGHTENMENT of our Younger Generations is the SPACE where the Italian American Younger Generation feel Comfortable, are Embracing, and are Utterly Consumed by, and THAT is the INTERNET.

Until we Build that National INTERNET Italian American PORTAL with all its LOCAL Affiliates, with EASY access to the Wealth of Knowledge available on the INTERNET, and make that PORTAL Fun , Challenging and Rewarding, geared to the Eyes, and Ears of the Younger Generation, there is little hope that we will make much inroads in giving our kids a FULL Opportunity to appreciate the Breadth and Depth of their Heritage, and therefore risk losing them to "Assimilation".

Italia USA (Formerly Italy at St Louis) and Italia Mia are small steps in that direction.

The availability of books (in their entirety) on the Internet such as the book cited in the title, are another small step.

All Italian and Italian American authors should be encouraged to make their "out of print" or "slow selling" books available on the Internet.  There is little to lose, and much to gain for the authors (recognition, rekindled interest in their other works, interest in their more current works) AND THE COMMUNITY.

ITALIAN AMERICANS & THEIR COMMUNITIES OF CLEVELAND   by Gene P. Veronesi

This 350+ page book, HALF deals with the General Italian American Experience and Half with the Cleveland Italian American Experience, is an excellent ONLINE Resource.

 "The essays included in this monograph emphasize Italian contributions to the human scientific and artistic heritage, and review the painful process of immigration and settlement.

They give special attention to the Italian-American community of Cleveland: to its neighborhoods, social and cultural activities as well as to its contributions to the growth of the greater Cleveland area."

This edition contains the complete text as found in the 1977 print edition of the book, along with some enhancements developed to aid in navigating this site.

PART ONE: ITALIANS - THEIR HERITAGE AND CONTRIBUTION

PART TWO : ITALIAN IMMIGRATION AND SETTLEMENT

PART THREE : THE ITALIAN COMMUNITY OF CLEVELAND
