USA Anti Italian WWII Actions Compare with Current Anti Muslim Attitudes???

The ANNOTICO Report

It is true that in 1942, in the US, Executive Order 9066, in conjunction with the Enemy Alien Act, subjected Italians (600,00), German (300,000), and Japanese-Americans (120,000), to a variety of Restrictions that ranged from Registration, Curfews ( that put people out of work), Confiscation of Property (like Fishing Boats), Displacement from West Coast areas, (including a 92 yr old bed ridden Italian on a Stretcher), Jailing, and Internment.

Much has been made of the Japanese Story, almost nothing about the Italians and Germans although FAR greater numbers were involved.

This was Not America's Finer Hour, and she has apologized for it, using FEAR as a justification, BUT Not an Excuse!!!

The author of the following article Ray G, did not do his research well. Those Actions on the part of the US Government were NOT Right, and subsequent generations have not merely sucked it up, they have shown that terrible injustices can be wrought when Fear instead of  Logic, AND our Proud Tradition for Fairness drives us to violate our own Sacred Traditions.

Those hard fought Liberties, that we too often take for granted, required Great Sacrifices. and we should Defend them well!!!!!

Ray G, on the other hand suggests the Muslims ignore Harassment, Insults, Anti Muslims Sentiments, and Profiling.

Instead of saying we have come along way from Slavery, and Anti Women attitudes, he instead cavalierly says: "It's your turn."

He also justifies on the basis that  "our country's safety is threatened".

In WWII Germany ruled from France to Moscow, and the Pacific Ocean was the Japan Sea, with Fire Bombs dropped on the West Coast.

He is Comparing THAT to OUR going half way across the world to INVADE a country BY MISTAKE, turn it into ruins, and be scared out of our wits by some guys hiding in caves, a half a world away??????

We have Much more to fear from the 100,000 "HOME GROWN TERRORISTS" / Gang Members in the US than we do Foreign Terrorists.

The only Time Ray G. is right, is when he calls this a "crazy war". And when you realize you were wrong about AMDs, Al Queda "connections", perhaps you should Not continue to try to WIN a WRONG War, You should Get OUT!!!!!!!!!!!! With Apologies!!!!!!

Let's Win This Thing

Earlier this year the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), claimed that Arabs and Muslims have been targeted in this country. Profiling of Muslims is of particular concern to CAIR. This anti-Muslim sentiment is certainly irritating and bothersome to people but I don't see it as anything more than a sociocultural phenomenon that occurs when our country's safety is threatened.

I'm sure that many of you remember the backlash against German, Italian and Japanese-Americans in the 1940s. As I recall it, those folks may have complained about harassment, but they also openly renounced the actions of their ancestral countries and jumped into the fight to help defeat them in a world war.

Many ethnic groups have taken their turn in the discrimination arena. How about African and Jewish-Americans? Their bouts with harassment and discrimination makes other periods of ethnocentricity seem like a walk in the park.

So to all the law-abiding Arab and Muslim-Americans out there, I want to say that circumstances and senseless violence have put you on center stage in the war on terrorism.

Simply stated, "It's your turn." So just suck up the insults and spit them back like the rest of us have had to do -- hunker down, join the fight and let's win this crazy war.
