A NEW FACE FOR THE PORTAL ITALYSTL.COM

In the interest of making our portal more useful and easier to navigate we have made the following changes.

We have moved the St. Louis associations to the extreme left column, under the pulldown menus where all of our important links reside. The second column, renamed "DEPARTMENTS" lists our usual features such as Miscellanea, Annotico Report, La Rondine, etc.  We have also added a new link in this column, called "ItalyLink" a newsfeed about Italy in English. The third column "IN THE NEWS...", will show excerpts of articles with links to the full story.  This newsletter will appear in this new column.  The fourth and last column which we are now calling "HIGHLIGHTS" will feature new items and items that continue to be of general interest.  Your comments about this new format will be appreciated.  Thank you.

Besides a further Improved Arrangement and Appearance, "Italy in St.Louis"  has added several Segments, including:

"AERONAUTICA ITALIANA", portraying Italy's contribution to Aeronautical advancements, that will feature the Francesco DePinedo Commemoration May 15, 2002 in Chicago. (Under Construction)

"VISIONS OF ITALY: SOUTHERN STYLE" PBS National Broadcast in November.

"MUSICAL CHRISTMAS FROM THE VATICAN" PBS National Broadcast in December.

"BAD TIMES, GOOD PEOPLE" by Walter Wolff (who dedicated the book to his Wife, Vittoria Wolff, nee Fubini). Wolff tells the neglected story of how the Italian people courageously expressed their basic humanity and goodness despite the Nazi opposition during WWII. Wolff's story chronicles the refusal of the ordinary Italian citizen to participate in the Final Solution, which was in stark contrast to their counterparts in Europe.

On June 6 & 7 2001, in a visit to St. Louis,  Wolff expressed his gratitude to all Italian men and women who risked their own lives to help him. (RAA: I recommend the book).

As I have stated before, In my humble opinion, "ITALY IN ST. LOUIS" sets the Standard for the type of tasteful and informative Web Site that every City in America deserves, in order to properly serve it's Italian American Residents.

The Fact that Franco Giannotti, Owner of the Site, is a Professional Web Master certainly is a strong factor contributing to it's high quality, and he has my respect for having the Vision, and the Fortitude to have created such a valuable Italian American public service.

If you are in the St. Louis area you are very fortunate.  If you are not, you just may want to visit it to see what you are missing.

Don't each of you wish you had a similar Web Site dedicated to the Italian Americans in YOUR City?
