Italian Americans Taking Legal Action to Block Batavia School Play: Fuggedaboudit

A coalition of local and national Italian American organizations will hold a press conference Tuesday, November 14, to announce legal steps it is taking to block performances of the school play Fuggedaboudit, subtitled a little mobster comedy, that will be performed by the Bada  Bing Players. Apparently inspired by the HBO series, "The Sopranos", at the Rotolo Mid d! le School in Batavia, Illinois scheduled for this week end.

 

The Organizations to be represented will include representayives of: The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the National Italian American Foundation, The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (of Chicago),the  Italian American Human Relations Foundation of Chicago. They will be joined by Anthony  Calderone, mayor, Forest Park, Il,

and Parents Marina Amoroso-Levato, parent of child at the Rotolo Middle School, and Joseph Rago, Esq., The Rago Group, Chicago, Il. & a parent of school children in Geneva.

 

Italian Americans Taking Legal Action to Block Batavia School Play

 

WHAT:           A coalition of local and national Italian American organizations will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce legal steps it is taking to block performances of a school play at the Rotolo Middle School in Batavia, Illinois scheduled for this week end.

 

WHEN:           Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 1 P.M.

 

WHERE:        The Kane County Courthouse

                        100 S. Third Street (Corner of Third and James Streets)

Geneva, IL 60134

 

WHY:              When requests to cancel the performances were dismissed by the school principal, Dr. Donald McKinney and the district school superintendent, Dr. Jack Barshinger last month, the coalition decided to take legal steps to block Fuggedaboudit, subtitled a little mobster comedy, performed by the Bada Bing Players, written by Matthew Myers who teaches drama and communications at the school.

 

Details will be announced at the press conference.

The Commission for Social Justice is the anti-defamation arm of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the largest and oldest national organization in the U.S. for men and women of Italian heritage.  Founded in 1905, today OSIA has a network of more than 700 lodges or chapters coast to coast.
