"Made in Italy" has such Cache, Produces Menu of Fakes. First Fashion, now Food

The ANNOTICO Report

Upon seeing the Headline, I immediately supposed that this article was going to be about the "Counterfeits" of the Italian "Fashion" world that are flooding the world.

But, no, it's about the Italian "Food" fakes.

Now I'm used to my Pizza Chains in the US being owned by Non Italians (No wonder they can't get it right:) , BUT just look at the following "Menu".

'MADE IN ITALY'. COLDIRETTI: HERE IS THE MENU OF FAKES

Shopping in the global market today can mean buying a whole lot of products that appear to be 'Made in Italy' but which actually have nothing to do with Italy, aside from the Italian flag on the label.

That's what Coldiretti reported in Naples, at the Meeting of the Organisation Presidents, where it displayed the most sensational cases of Italian fakes produced in the world, from Europe to Asia, from Oceania to America.

The "menu" starts off with mozzarella produced with milk of Minnesota or Australian cows, or Parmesan (Parmeson) cheese surely not produced in Parma. The main course could be a plate of spaghetti bolognese, but the pasta is made in Germany and the ragu sauce, which doesn't have meat, only basil, comes from Estonia.

Vegetarians might be appealed by the 'Contadina - Roma style tomatoes' sauce, made in California, or 'Pomodorini di collina' tomatoes, canned in China and recently displayed at an event in Paris.

Nobody will notice if we add some Pecorino cheese to our pasta, even if it is made in Shanghai, but what we cannot avoid noticing is the cow on the label. Cheeses: Ricotta 'perfect italiano' is made in Australia, Provolone cheese produced in Wisconsin (USA) and there is also a Chinese caciotta cheese.

Side dishes can be dressed with a balsamico vinegar of Modena produced in Germany, or extravirgin olive oil 'Romolus and Remus', famous founders of Madrid...considering that the product is made in Spain.

To wash everything down, have a sip of Classico Caberlot, obtained from Rumanian grapes, or help digestion with a good Amaretto Venezia liquor, made in Germany, whose bottle is the same shape of the renowned Amaretto di Saronno
