ZURICH, Switzerland (AP-CP) -- World Cup champion Italy returned to No. 1 in FIFA's
world rankings Wednesday, ending Argentina's
short stay on top, while Canada
improved nine spots after reaching an all-time low last month.Canada
jumped from 103rd to 94th....
Argentina
dropped to second spot after spending a month atop the standings. Brazil was third, followed by France and Germany.
Italy defeated Scotland 2-0 in
a 2008 European Championship qualifier March 28. Argentina has not played since last
month's rankings.
Netherlands, Portugal, England,
Spain and the Czech Republic
rounded out the top 10.
Big movers included Turkey,
up 10 places to 17th; Ireland,
up 20 places to 31st; and Northern Ireland,
up 14 places to 33rd. Cameroon
moved up five places to 13th and Nigeria advanced nine places to
27th after qualifying wins for the African Cup of Nations.
