The "WopBurger" of Louisville,. Co: Letter to Editor

The ANNOTICO Report

My Report of May 13, was titled "Wopburger" in Louisville, Colorado Finally Dies a Belated Death".

It appears that like a vampire, it has cheated death.

Consider further how innappropriate it would be to serve up a "niggerdog" or "kikewich" as a sign of affection or respect ???

NIAF, OSIA, IAOV, have all encouraged Letters to the Editor of the Louisville Times, CO, the location of the Blue Parrot.

Re: The Wopburger

It saddens me when Italian Americans are so ignorant of their Italian American Heritage and Culture, that they should think "wop" was a term of affection.  It instead is very similar to the term "nigger" in the Black community.

Those involved with, and supportive of the Blue Parrot ( Now THAT's Italian?) position on the burger, obviously have their knowledge of Italian Heritage limited to that which is served to them on a plate.

I suggest they read "WOP: A Documentary History of Anti Italian Discrimination"  by Professor of History and Political Science, Salvatore J Lagumina, (Guernica Editions Inc.; 1999)

The book description on Amazon, com states: "As the largest nationality group among the "new immigrants" and as the second largest immigrant group on record, Italians have been subject to some of the most blatant, brutal, and course forms of discrimination to affect any peoples. This volume (originally published in 1973) is the first to systematically investigate and record anti-Italian discrimination in the U.S.A"

Then I suggest they read  "La Storia: Five Centuries of the Italian American Experience" by Jerre Mangione, (Harper Perennial, 1993).

These may help dispel a few of the clouds of ignorance.
