France and UK Worse than Italy in Public Sector Costs

The ANNOTICO Report

Admittedly Italy pays its Civil Servants handsome Salaries, gives them plenty of Perks, and Generous Pensions, but apparently France and Britain are even worse.

Service to the Community, or Slurping at the Public Trough?????

UK has One of Costliest Public Sectors

ROME (Reuters) - The cost of running France's public administration is the highest in Europe, followed by Britain and Italy, a study by an Italian business group said on Saturday.

French citizens shelled out an average of 5,026 euros (3,395 pounds) per head each a year to keep the public infrastructure going, while Britons paid 4,544 euros and Italians 4,423 euros, the study compiled using 2005 Eurostat data said.

Spain had the cheapest public administration system that cost its citizens only 2,868 euros each.

The estimates factored in the money spent on state employees and costs to manage and run public services.

The study was published by CGIA, an association of craftsmen and small businesses in the northern town of Mestre that was set up after World War II and which among other things tracks public spending.

Many Italians believe their civil servants are costly and inefficient, enjoying expensive perks such as official cars and other benefits.

A recent-best selling book depicted Italy as a nation that pays its European members of parliament more than any other country and where the presidency costs four times as much as the royal family.
