RE:Commission on Italian and Americans of Italian Heritage Culture & Education

ANGELA MORRESI, one of the spearheads for the passage of the above
Legislation, also known as A-3693 (Assembly version-Paul DiGaetano Prime
sponsor) and S-1782 (Senate version Anthony Bucco Prime sponsor) reports:

"CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE, OUR LEGISLATION PASSED THE ASSEMBLY AND SENATE
TODAY. MORE DETAILS WILL FOLLOW. NOW THE ACTING GOVERNOR DEFRANCESCO MUST SIGN IT"

[RAA NOTE: The Governor was very supportive, from the beginning, so no
problem is expected]

To Refresh your Memory:

These bills creates a Commission in the State of New Jersey, to establish
curriculum guidelines for Italian studies to be taught in the elementary and
secondary public and private schools.  It also creates an Institute to be
tied to a university of higher education.

This Institute will sponsor studies and grant scholarships.  For example we
may need to do a study on jury duty stereotyping -- this bill can provide one
course of action to fund such a study.  It is a vehicle to coordinate and do
the work. On the other hand we may desire to do a series of cultural events
and exhibits. This bill provides the framework.

The amount of money to be appropriated by this bill may be modest, but it
provides for an office, executive director and curriculum development and
distribution ($350,000).

Everyone who sent Emails, or made Phone Calls to New Jersey Legislators on
this matter, give yourself one helluva PAT ON THE BACK. You are a credit to
the Italian American Community, and all those who benefit from this
Commission's efforts will owe you a debt!!!!
