New Jersey State Senators Condemn Johnny Miller/NBC for Rocco Mediate Slurs

The ANNOTICO Report

Morris Plains, NJ -- State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris/Passaic) joined Senate President Dick Codey in condemning NBC Sports treatment of Italian American golfer Rocco Mediate.

Pennacchio echoed Codey's disapproval of disparaging remarks made by Johnny Miller while announcing the recent U.S. Open Golf Championship.  Miller said that Mediate, who is Italian American, had the looks of someone "who cleans Tiger's swimming pool."  This ignorant remark was followed by "guys with the name Rocco don't get on the trophy."

"It seems that Johnny Miller and NBC are just too comfortable in saying and allowing these bigoted remarks directed at Italian Americans.  It is time they are both held responsible.  NBC should apologize and should fire Mr. "All American" Johnny Miller," concluded Pennacchio.
