THE ANNOTICO REPORT

I ordinarily don't report on local events, but St Louis Italian Americans are the ONLY City in the US that has utilized the Internet to a substantial degree, and has for 12 years, so they have a special place in my heart. Are they so Smart, or are the other Communities So Retarded ??? 


ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF ST. LOUIS

The 5th annual Italian Film Festival of St. Louis, sponsored by Washington University’s Program in Film and Media Studies, the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis and the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago, will feature the St. Louis premier of six recent Italian films: 

La giusta distanza (The Right Distance) by Carlo Mazzacurati on Friday, April 10 (106 minutes), Il pap? di Giovanna (Giovanna’s Father) by Pupi Avati on Saturday, April 11 (104 min.), Mar nero (Black Sea) by Federico Bondi on Friday, April 17 (95 min.), Il vento fa il suo giro (The Wind Blows Round) by Giorgio Diritti on Saturday, April 18 (110 min.), Colpo d’occhio (At a Glance) by Sergio Rubini on Friday, April 24 (110 min.), and Notturno bus (Night Bus) by Davide Marengo on Saturday, April 25 (104 min.). Screenings are on Fridays at 8 pm and Saturdays at 5 pm and 8 pm. 

La giusta distanza is a murder mystery set in the Po River delta country of Northeastern Italy. 

Il papa di Giovanna focuses on a father and his socially awkward daughter who becomes insanely jealous of her best friend. 

Mar nero is a about an elderly widow and her Romanian caregiver who are at first distrustful of one another but quickly form a strong relationship. 

Il vento fa il suo giro focuses on a French shepherd who transfers his family and their goats to a small village in the Occitan Alps. The inhabitants of the village, after a warm welcome, begin to feel uncomfortable by the presence of the new arrivals. 

Colpo d’occhio is about a beautiful young woman who leaves her boyfriend, a noted art critic, for a struggling artist looking for his big break; the art critic develops a plan to ruin the young artist. 

Notturno bus revolves around a bored bus driver and a seductive young woman who cross paths with a series of unsavory characters during their get rich scheme in this dark comedy. 

All films will be shown in 35mm in Italian with English subtitles in the 346 seat theatre in Brown Hall 100 on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis.
