Business Week: From Bloomberg News; By Flavia Krause-Jackson and Lorenzo Totaro; May 18, 2010,  May 18 (Bloomberg) --

Italy won’t raise costs for tax- payers and will cut spending by targeting tax cheats, people faking disabilities to claim benefits and overpaid politicians, Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti said.

"I heard of proposals of a 5 percent cut on politicians.. That is just an aperitif," he told reporters RAI SpA news program. "We will reduce public expenditure. There will be fewer phoney invalids and fewer tax evaders. We are not putting our hands in the pockets of Italians."
