Top 10 World Cup Teams
Capperspicks.com is previewing The
Teams For World Cup 2010 in South Africa – Venues, History, and more. If
you’re Looking To gamble On The 2010 World Cup here is your insider betting
guide and World Cup 2010 Preview.
As always there are a few heavyweights
participating in this year’s World Cup final in South Africa.
Let’s take a look at the top 10 in
order of the teams that possess the tools necessary to bring World Cup
glory to their respective country.
First on the list is Spain. The Red
Fury is in great form and makes their return with the core of an impressive
European Championship side of 2008. Their tight passing game and extended
periods of possession are skillfully crafted and executed flawlessly and
finished by the fearsome striker duo of Fernando Torres and David Villa.
With Fabregas, Iniesta, and Xavi manning the midfield, this team is the
one to beat.
Spain defends well as a team and
has a top-notch goalkeeper in Casillas. By winning EURO 2008, Spain seemed
to get the monkey off their backs in terms of a reputation for not performing
at the international level.
If Spain loses before the semi-finals,
it will be an upset.
As they say, “ if they English invented
football the Brazilians perfected it.” The Samba Kings should be feeling
confident after winning the 2009 Confederations Cup Championship, and with
much of the same squad still on the pitch, should be prepared to win it
all again. Although their team is loaded with options, the chemistry seems
very good with Kaka working well with Robhino and Fabiano. The Brazilians
work well under pressure, have a solid defensive posture and seem to be
able to turn it up a level when they need to.
Don’t be surprised to see them lift
the trophy once again.
If talent won titles, Argentina would
have won a few World Cups over the last several years. Their performances
have been very good at times, but even though they always boast one of
the most potent sides in the tournament, there’s always that little something
that seems missing. The current squad is no exception. They are loaded
with talent such as Messi, Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano, and Inter’s
Diego Milito.
It will be a plus having Maradona
and Messi starting from the beginning, and could be the difference in this
year’s outcome.
Known as one of the world’s soccer
super powers, the English have been cursed by their inability to live up
to their reputation. This year could bring big changes. They have a solid
squad starting with their defense, and posses a world-class offense that
includes players such as Gerrard, Lampard, and Rooney.
The Three Lions have reached the
quarterfinals several times in the recent decade, and it would no surprise
if they went on a run in 2010 and won it all.
France was probably the best team
at World Cup in 2006, and was unlucky to lose to Italy in the final by
penalty kicks. Les Bleus have a plethora of talent with Gallas, Ribery,
and Thierry Henry. If Ribery, and Henry work well together and are on form,
this could be the team to beat.
Next-door neighbors Germany often
perform their best when it matters most. While this year’s squad is not
the most talented, they are surely a team known for their resolve and determination.
The Germans are experienced and have had some international success
over the last few years. Although they will be without captain Michael
Ballack, the squad is stacked with the likes of Podolski, Schweinstager,
and keeper Hans-Joerg Butt. They will be a lock to advance to the second
round and from there will battle well with anyone that they meet.
The Italians are the current World
Cup holders so there will be additional pressure on the Azzurri to perform
to expectations after an uninspiring qualifying campaign. After a brutal
showing at Confederations Cup 2009, Italy have had some time to resolve
their shortcomings in an effort to turn things around. Boss Marcello Lippi
made several roster surprises, opting for youth over experience.
Can this squad of youngsters lead
the Italians to back-to-back titles? Led by Fabio Cannavaro, the
Italians will not give up their crown easily.
The Dutch may have one of the best
chances. As usual they are stacked with great talent and will most likely
show up on fire in South Africa.
Like Spain, fans will be wondering
if they will finish the tournament at the same level as the start.
With Robben, van der Vaart, van Persie,
Kuyt, and Inter’s Wesley Sneijder. The Oranje will match any team on technique
and talent. Their exciting style of ball movement and possession football
is always fun to watch. If their World Cup qualifying form is indicative
of things to come, they should make a deep run.
Rounding out the best of Europe is
Portugal. Selecao das Quinas have qualified for its fifth World Cup appearance
and will be searching for its first major prize in South Africa this summer.
They have superb talent starting
with international superstar Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. There are
four players in the squad from the Premier League, with Chelsea’s Paulo
Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho and Deco joined by Manchester United’s Nani.
Portugal has been on the cusp if
something big for the past couple World Cup Finals, and should not be dismissed
when picking this year’s overall winner.
I could have plugged in about three
teams in the ten spot, and although the USA had a humbling 2006 World Cup,
there is no reason why they cannot advance deep into the tourney in South
Africa this summer. The squad is a great mixture of youth and veterans
as well as international talent.
Seventeen players are plying their
trade in Europe, four in Major League Soccer and two at the Mexican club
level.
A handful of their players easily
could make the Best XI of a World Cup to include Landon Donovan, Jozy Altidore,
Tim Howard, and Michael Bradley. The strength of the team is its defense,
work rate, and athleticism. The counter-attacking style they used during
the Confederations Cup is deadly.
This is the USA’s best squad since
reaching the quarterfinals in 2002, and may be the first in history to
advance into the finals.
So will it be one of the traditional
powers, an emerging nation or a new rising team to triumph in South Africa?
One thing is for certain.
This year’s champions will have reached
the pinnacle, only after conquering some of the greatest sides ever assembled
in World Football history.
