Furthermore, they swept the Gold, Silver, and Bronze in Individual Events with Elisa Di Francisca, Arianna Errigo and Valentina Vezzali. The team's fourth player was Ilaria Salvatori.

PARIS (France), - They are still the Dream Team and they still bring home the gold. After winning all three medals in the individual event (gold for Elisa Di Francisca, silver for Arianna Errigo and bronze for Valentina Vezzali) the women's fencing team (reinforced by Ilaria Salvatori) defeated Sylvia Gruchala's Poland. The Polish team quickly took the lead thanks to Gruchala and Chlewinska (10-3) but Di Francisca narrowed the gap and Errigo put Italy ahead. With two more attacks to go and Italy losing 30-24, the recent world champion Di Francisca began her team's comeback 35-31, until Errigo's performance put Italy 40-33. Valentina Vezzali settled the score (45-37) and secured another gold medal, her 19th medal in world championships.

THE PROCESS:  Before the final, the Italian squad, number one in the world ranking, had easily gathered three victories: 45-11 over Venezuela in the round of 16, 45-24 over France in the quarter-finals and 45-30 against Germany in semi-finals. They've lost only once this season, against Russia, in the last event of the team world championships in St. Petersburg in May. The rest were all almost embarrassingly easily won. France (their opponents in quarter-finals) were already losing 9-20 after 4 attacks. With the four pairs competing all at once, Italy closed the match 45-25 at least 15 minutes earlier in comparison to the other attacks. With 4 team events still to go, the Italians have already collected 6 medals.

Tomorrow will be the men's turn with Andrea Baldini, Andrea Cassar?, Valerio Aspromonte and Stefano Barrera.
