Mario Balotelli To Become New Italy Captain In Fight Against Racism

The Italian Coach has selected as Captain, Mario Barwuah Balotelli, born of Ghanaian parents in Palermo Sicily, an Italian footballer who plays as a "hitman" striker for Manchester City and the Italian National team, after Balottelli was subjected to vile racial abuse by a Romanian crowd in a "Friendly" with Italy on Wednesday.

Balotelli is known for his pace, technical ability, and petulant attitude, Balotelli (often nicknamed Super Mario) can play anywhere along the front line. He is a set-piece specialist and regarded as a promising yet fiery young striker.

His combative and troublesomeness may be attributed partly to, as a young child, Balotelli had life-threatening complications with his intestines which led to a series of operations, and  required the Barwuahs to give him up to a foster home, at the age of three, to Francesco and Silvia Balotelli, with whom he had a "rocky" relationship.

The racist chants against Mario Balotelli have served as a treasure chest to make him the new Italy captain in response to the grotesque boos and monkey noises that greeted the player on Wednesday, according to reports in the Italian media.

Coach Cesare Prandelli is considering the idea of handing the captain's armband to the Manchester City hitman - an idea he likes after seeing him subjected to vile abuse in the 1-1 draw with Romania in a friendly international on Wednesday evening.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Prandelli was asked whether such a move would work in curbing the ill-feeling towards his man His response was yes, although that has not been confirmed officially.

However, Prandelli would have to confer before he confirms. He will ask the squad their opinion on making Balotelli their talisman.?

There has been uproar in Italy following the abuse suffered by Balotelli. The incident forced one news reporter to paint his face with brown make-up during a live broadcast in protest against the abuse.
