MTV & " Jersey Shore" Turning US Into The United States of Jersey

The Staff of Mayfair High School Newspaper in Lakewood CA (suburb of Los Angeles) opines:  We understand that it's just a silly little reality show that people shouldn't take so seriously because they have nothing better to do than follow around teen mothers and ridiculously orange Jersey girls. But seriously if we don't stop with the ridiculous reality shows now, we'll be one Situation away from becoming the United States of Jersey.

Jersey Shore vs Actual Italians

The WindJammer,  Staff Editorial; Mayfair High School, Lakewood CA;  Saturday, June 04, 2011

America?s Favorite Guidos and Guidettes are back! We?re sorry, did we just say favorite?

Let?s rephrase it to, MTV?s favorite, mega-hit reality TV show stars are infiltrating the nation.

If you still haven?t caught on, we are talking about The Jersey Shore.

We, at Mayfair High School Windjammer, have a problem with The Jersey Shore, that?s right, we said it. Right now, maybe you are thinking, ?Wow Windjammer staff you must be crazy, Jersey Shore is the best thing that has ever happened to reality TV." And to you we say, maybe we are a little crazy, but Jersey Shore is definitely not the model reality show and we?ll show you why in a few short examples.

Example #1: Sure it?s MTV?s largest rated show captivating 5.2 million viewers each week, but what can you learn from it? What are you seeing that is beneficial? Remember the show Big Brother? Now that is a reality show, contestants live in a house under constant supervision, do you learn anything? Not really. But when it comes to Jersey Shore you are bombarded with drinking, slam dancing, buff naked Italian dudes, and fighting...and that?s just in the intro.

Example #2: The Jersey Shore Italians vs. Actual Italians. Before Jersey Shore what did you think of when the word Jersey was said? Did you think of The Mafia? Or did you think of hazardously orange twenty year olds? One of our own staffers comes from an Italian background and is ashamed of how Snooki and her crew call themselves die-hard Italians who reflect the aspects of everyday Italian life. Which brings us to our third and last example.

Example #3: Are you kidding Jersey Shore cast? You think you are the embodiment of all Italians Americans? ... And not to mention Jersey Shore, to furthermore revoke your Italian card, your show has been under recent attack by UNICO, the largest Italian American Organization in the U.S.! UNICO requested that the show be pulled for its "direct, deliberate, and disgraceful attack on Italian Americans"

Need we go any further? No, instead we need to talk about how to give a solution to our fake Italian reality show, simply get rid of MTV all together. Ok just kidding. We understand that it?s just a silly little reality show that people shouldn?t take so seriously because they have nothing better to do than follow around teen mothers and ridiculously orange Jersey girls. But seriously if we don?t stop with the ridiculous reality shows now, we?ll be one Situation away from becoming the United States of Jersey.
