Jersey Shore Apologizes For Being "Offensive" ; Not to Italians-Americans, But "Trannys"

I try to be supportive of any "culture" that is being demeaned or brutalized. But When GLAAD on behalf of the LGBT community, in this instance complains vehemently about the use of the word "Tranny" in one of the episodes of "Jersey  Shore" because they claim it an " easy punch line in popular culture, and... using the term is hurtful, dehumanizing, and associated with violence, hatred, and derision.."

They make NO MENTION that this is FOUR SEASONS of  Derision, Dehumanizing, and Demeaning of Italian Americans. Recently GLAAD launched a Campaign vs Bullying of Gays in Schools. Why NOT a Campaign to Stop BULLYING against  ALL KIDS in School ?????

I have difficulty having compassion for a group that is interested ONLY in It's OWN, and is willing to ignore Victimization of Others!!!!!!!!!!
And is quick to respond to a "slap", but ignore the long term ongoing "Brutalization" of another group, like Italians- Americans  !!!!!!!!!!!

Jersey Shore Apologizes For Being "Offensive"
Rumor Fix; November 2, 2010

You'd never expect this from the folks who bring you Jersey Shore,  but they're apologizing for being offensive.

On Jersey Shore's Reunion Special  last week, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and other cast members used the term "tranny" to describe an unidentified club patron who was flirting with "The Situation" on the MTV show.

The Gay Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) complained to MTV and received this apology:

We appreciate GLAAD voicing concern about the "Jersey Shore" reunion special. The segment in question was certainly not meant to be insensitive, but in retrospect we realize that it was offensive to some viewers.   We sincerely apologize.

Now the watchdog group is going after Glee  for using the same word during their Rocky Horror  special.

In the episode, the character Mike Chang backs out of playing cross-dresser Dr. Frank-N-Furter, because his parents don't want him "dressing like a tranny."

GLAAD'S Matt Kane writes on the organization's site:

"Unfortunately the larger problem here is that the word 'tranny' has become an easy punch line in popular culture, and many still don't realize that using the term is hurtful, dehumanizing, and associated with violence, hatred, and derision against transgender people - a community that is nearly invisible in media today."
