The "MOVEMENT" an Italian American
Educational Exhibit in Chicago
The "MOVEMENT"
an educational exhibit in Chicago offers three (3) historical sections
for public viewing.(1) The Italian American Alien Discrimination During
WWII (2) The Importance of Columbus (3) The Negative Stereotyping of Italian
Americans by the Media.
The "MOVEMENT" an educational exhibit
detailing the struggle and challenges experienced by Italian Americans
will be on display starting October 17th, 2011 at the Daley Plaza, east
lobby in Chicago. This marks the 12th consecutive year the NATIONAL ITALIAN
AMERICAN COUNCIL (NIAC) and the City of Chicago worked together to host
this powerful project.
The "MOVEMENT" offers three (3) historical
sections for public viewing.
Section (1) The story begins describing
how the Federal Government discriminated against Italian Americans living
in America just because Italy was at war with the United States. How thousands
of innocent, loyal Italian American citizens were branded enemy aliens
and subjected to civil rights violations by the very same government they
served to protect.
Section (2) details the accomplishments
and achievements of Christopher Columbus as an explorer. This area is complete
with up-to-date facts since the first voyage leading into the anti-Columbus
movement organized by anti-Columbus activists.
Section (3) will take the viewer into
more darker images showing the biased and racist attitudes of the mass
media especially the "Hollywood Media" and how it negatively
depicts and stereotypes Italian Americans
in Hollywood and on TV. Viewers will be surprised to learn how the mass
media unfairly target loyal, innocent, law abiding people. And the efforts
taken by NIAC to change the social perception of the way the American people
view and look upon Italian Americans in society.
The NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN COUNCIL
(NIAC) is a national organization and dedicated to defending and advancing
the Italian American cause on a national level.
Todate NIAC?s proudest moment was
the successful lobbying of The Italian American Wartime Violations Act
HR 2442. Considered the most important piece of legislation ever passed
and signed into law on behalf of Italian Americans in the United States
of America.
