AMERICA AWARDS TOP HONORS TO  ITALIAN SCULPTOR

Italian sculptor Giò Pomodoro is the recipient of this year’s American
"Contemporary Sculpture Award."

The 72-year-old Italian sculptor, who, like his brother Arnaldo, trained as a
goldsmith, was acknowledged for his contribution to the development of
sculpture, by "leaving an indelible imprint on 20th century sculpture."

The artist will be present at the awards ceremony in New York to receive the
prize in person on April 9.

The city of Milan organized a retrospective of the artist’s work, entitled
"Suns, Large Watercolors and Sculptures," which opened this week.

According to Mr. Pomodoro, the sun is the source of life’s beauty and energy.
