I envy those of you who live in NYC. This is a fascinating Panel.
The formation of the EU is one of the more momentous occasions
in the history of Western Civilization. The EU as an Economic Force
will be significant, but it appears the Cultural/Political differences will
be a serious distraction... The Hemogonists vs the Separatists.
The Federalists  vs Confederationists.

The Italian Cultural Institute is to be commended for sponsoring such a
highly informative, and high grade Event. So many of the other Italian American
Institutes dwell merely on quaint folkloric matters. Not that some of these matters
are not important to perpetuate, but not to shove aside "priority" cultural matters.
Ours is a Culture FAR more than the "tarantella", the "evil eye, or the "horn".

On Monday, April 29, 2002 at 6:00pm, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura (New
York City) is sponsoring "Italy and the New Europe"--an exchange of views
with the distinguished panel of Hon. Paolo Bartolozzi, of the European
Parliament, Sen. Massimo Brutti, Sen Vittorio Pessina and the Hon. Pietro
Folena of the Italian Parliament. The panel will be moderated by Giampaolo
Pioli, Correspondent of Resto del Carlino-La Nazione-Il Giorno.

>From the Common Market to the EU to the Euro, Europe has emerged as a
unified economic force that cannot be ignored. The future of Europe as a
political entity, however, is much more cloudy. Will Europe succeed in its
quest to enter into the realm of international politics as a single player,
or will it be hindered by infighting and national differences? A
distinguished panel from both the European and the Italian parliaments –
representing the full spectrum of contemporary Italian politics – will
discuss Italy’s contribution to this crucial moment in political history.
