I am shocked. I never realized that  57 Years later, Italians would not on;y 
enthusiastically celebrate their Liberation, but they spend a week doing it!!!

WEEKLONG CELEBRATIONS OF LIBERATION DAY 
TAKING PLACE NATIONWIDE
 
The celebrations for April 25 - Liberation Day - have been underway for days 
in many Italian cities.
 
This year marks the 57th anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism in 
1945.

President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi will present the Gold Medal for Partisanship 
to the city of Ascoli Piceno, and commemorations with processions will be 
held in Rome and Milan with the participation of politicians and labor 
unionists. 

Official ceremonies and commemorations will take place all over the country, 
in many cases accompanied by exhibits, performances and festivities.
