"MILLE GRAZIE" AWARDS FOR PROMOTING A POSITIVE IMAGE
OF ITALIAN-AMERICANS TO BE PRESENTED ON JUNE 5TH
Bloomfield, NJ May 8, 2002. The Anti- Bias Committee of UNICO
National and
BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE are pleased to announce the Second Annual "MILLE
GRAZIE"
Awards Program to be held at Bloomfield College, in Bloomfield, N.J.
on
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, 2002.
This Prestigious Award is given in Appreciation to Individuals, Institutions,
or
Companies that have been instrumental in Helping To Foster a Positive
Image
of Italian Americans, or those who have shown themselves to be a friend
to
the Italian American Community.
This Year's Awards will be presented to:

Radio Talk Show Host LAWRENCE E. TAMANINI
FRA NOI, an Italian American Newspaper based in Chicago Illinois

DR. JOHN NOONAN, President of Bloomfield College, NJ, and to
MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY'S Broadcasting Department

NJ ASSEMBLYMAN PAUL DI GAETANO.
Assemblyman Di Gaetano has been in the forefront of the effort to foster
the
preservation and propagation of Italian-American culture and heritage.
He played a leading role in the introduction and enactment of legislation
creating the New Jersey Italian/Italian American Studies Commission.
PENNSYLVANIA RADIO TALK HOST LAWRENCE E. TAMANINI.
Mr. Tamanini is being recognized for his efforts in fostering a positive
image for
Italian-Americans. Through his weekly radio broadcasts, on WBCB 1490
AM,
"The Italian American Hour" he provides exposure and opportunity for
Italian-American musicians and singers. In addition, he continually
encourages Italian-Americans to join Italian-American organizations
such as
UNICO National, Son of Italy, etc.
ITALIAN TRIBUNE NEWSPAPER.
This New Jersey-based newspaper has become a fixture in Italian-American
homes throughout the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area.
The Italian Tribune is being recognized for its long-standing and ongoing
support
of UNICO National, and for promoting a positive Italian-American image
while
combating negative stereotyping.
FRA NOI NEWSPAPER. This outstanding Illinois-based Italian-American
newspaper is being recognized for its educational value, and for promoting
a
positive Italian-American image and actively combating negative stereotyping.
MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY'S BROADCASTING DEPARTMENT.
The Montclair (NJ) State University Broadcasting Department is being
recognized
for the student-produced video entitled "Media and the Mob," which
exposes
and explores distorted images of Italian-Americans in the media.
DR. JOHN NOONAN, PRESIDENT OF BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE.
Dr. Noonan has exhibited exemplary cooperation and understanding of
the
issues confronting Italian-Americans today. He has made the College's
facilities available to UNICO for the "Mille Grazie Awards," and "The
Debt to
Honor" programs, and also cosponsors the events.
The AWARDS PROGRAM will be held at Bloomfield's College's
VAN FOSSAN THEATER on the corner of Franklin Avenue Fremont Street,
in Bloomfield N.J. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, 2002, 7:00PM.

American CULTURE and HERITAGE.
