I received a message from Steve Antonuccio, who has commendable respect for
his Italian and Italian American Culture, and ALL those who "contribute" to
it's elevation,
from the poor immigrant who overcame adversities of a nature that most of us
can not begin to comprehend, to those whose talents and achievements can not
but help but inspire awe.

Antonuccio is a dedicated and respected I-A "activist" (from the Denver
area), and revisits Giuliani's fascination with the "Mafia", when the subject
is raised again, tangentially, because of HBO's "In Memoriam: New York City,
9/11/01", an hourlong documentary (7 p.m. Sunday).

The documentary's main figure is former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Six months in
the making, is "culled" from nearly 800 hours of film and tape from hundreds
of amateur and professional filmmakers and news organizations.

In this revisitation which follows on in part, Antonuccio infers that
Giuliani's support for "The Sopranos" ( I enjoy referring to them as "The
Castrati", since pre pubescent male youth, in prior times only maintained
their soprano voice, by castration), is "payback" for Brad Grey's (Whose
Production Company owns "The Sopranos")
"rescuing" Giuliani during certain "dark" hours.

Antonuccio may be correct, although I would hope that Giuliani could show his
appreciation in ways other than demeaning his heritage, by pronouncing
himself a "fan" of "The Sopranos".

It may be worth while also exploring the fact that Giuliani's reoccurring
references, and "imitations" of Mafia types, is really only Selfishly SELF
SERVING (to the detriment of his heritage) by continually reminding people of
his former role as a "no nonsense" District Attorney??

Or is it that, he felt he needed to make his otherwise bland and stoic image,
some what more "earthy"????

Perhaps if he were convinced that as NYC's "Man/Mayor of the "Memoriam", it
would be unseeming for him to "demote" himself to a mere former District
Attorney, we would be spared his "Mafia" Imitations, and his "Floozy"
costuming, and assume a more "statesman" persona ????

My head is beginning to hurt from trying to figure out what goes on in this
man's mind.

RUDY GIULIANI AND BRAD GREY

If you wondered why Rudy Giuliani would embrace a series like The
Sopranos, almost from the day it first aired, the answer to that
question is as clear as a Colorado sky.  To quote from an article by
Gail Shister of the Knight Ridder Newspapers she writes the following
about the current 9/11 documentary being shown on HBO.

Ironically, Nevins passed on the 9/11 project in August when her boss,
Chris Albrecht, suggested a documentary on the mayor. (It was pitched to
Albrecht by producer Brad Grey, a Guiliani representative who happens to
produce HBO's biggest, hit, "The Sopranos.")

Not only does Brad Grey represent Guiliani, but before 9/11 he brokered
a 3 million dollar book deal for Rudy at a time when he was broke and
almost politically dead.  I know it is not politically correct at this
time to criticize Rudy Guiliani, but he was and still is a political
animal and he usually acts in his best interest.

At this moment we are experiencing a little peace and quiet from The
Sopanos hype machine. But we are just in the eye of the hurricane.  In
October they will launch their remaining two seasons, and at some point
in the near future The Sopranos will be sold in syndication to a basic
cable outlet, probably TNT or some other Time owned company.  When The
Sopranos are shown in the homes of 60% of America, I predict there will
be another avalanche of Italian American hate and defamation.  How is it
going to help the cause of Italian Americans when each week 60% of
America (including children)  are going to see Italian Americans beating
up their women, selling drugs, and commiting murder.  Don't give up the
fight yet, the battle is just beginning.
