ITALY THIRD LARGEST PEACE-KEEPING CONTINGENT IN WORLD

Italy currently has more than 10,000 soldiers involved in peace-keeping missions around the world, making it the third largest contingent after the United States and Great Britain.

This interesting fact was announced by the Under Secretary of Defense Francesco Bosi in an interview given in San Remo, Liguria. Bosi was attending the 97th Conference on Rights in Armed Conflicts, organized by the International Institute of Human Rights and held at the Villa Ormand.

Bosi pointed out that the largest part of the Italian Contingent is currently at work in ten countries, with the highest concentration in former Yugoslavia.

Given that troop substitutions take place every three or four months, Italy employs 30 to 40 thousand soldiers each year in peace-keeping missions.
