"Meucci" Tour to Canada by Dr. Basilio Catania, subject to SARS threat.

Dr. Basilio Catania, the worlds foremost authority on Antonio Meucci, as Inventor
of the Telephone, will travel from Turin, Italy to Montreal, and Toronto, Canada to present in Lectures and Interviews evidence affirming Meucci's claims, and disputing Alexander Graham Bell's claims.  (Dr. Catania's Itinerary is listed below).

A.G. Bell (the "pretender" inventor) was born in Scotland (1847), and immigrated first to Brantford, Ontario, (1870) then to Boston, Mass (1871). In 1886, the Bells discover the Nova Scotian town of Baddeck, and then buy the entire nearby peninsula and rename it "Beinn Bhreagh". The A.G.Bell National Historic Site of Canada is located in nearby Cape Breton. The Canadians therefore feel a camaraderie with A.G. Bell.
Dr. Catania is therefore boldly venturing into a "lions den".

Dr. Catania has written a 4 volume work "Antonio Meucci - The inventor and His Times" (In Italian), and is the preeminent work on the Invention of the Telephone.

The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) presented an award to Dr. Basilio Catania,
a telecommunications scholar, at an Oct. 12, 2002 banquet ceremony in Rome, for his research documenting Italian inventor Antonio Meucci’s contributions to the development of the telephone, an invention generally attributed to Alexander Graham Bell.

The award was presented to Dr. Catania for his 12 years of telecommunications research that has provided significant evidence of Meucci’s rightful claim to the invention of the telephone, as well as his development of five fundamental techniques of telecommunications.

Based on this, Dr.Catania has proved that Meucci’s laboratory notebook was not a forgery, as had been charged by the Bell Company. Previous research also revealed that Meucci demonstrated his invention, which he called the telettrofono, in 1860, 16 years before Bell was granted a patent. In dire financial straits, Meucci was unable to afford the fees to patent his invention.

Catania’s extensive search in about 50 archives and libraries in various countries and his study of their relevant documents also uncovered a mass of unpublished information on the suit brought by the U.S. government against Alexander Graham Bell and the Bell Company, which would have annulled the Bell patent. Meucci died in 1889 before the government could complete its case, and history all but forgot him until Catania began his research.

Catania’s discoveries have been published in a number of scientific magazines and have been also filed with the U.S. Congress in support of a resolution acknowledging Meucci’s merits.

The greatest advocate for A.G. Bell is Edwin S. Grosvenor, who also happens to be Bell's great grandson. Bell's greatest supporter is The Bell Telephone Co, whose brand name would be diluted by the emergence of the truth.

On the other hand, I urge you to read both Dr. Catania's Curriculum, and his section on Meucci at: Basilio Catania: a lifelong researcher in telecommunications

Dr. Catania reports that his two correspondents, Franco Gucciardo of Consulta Meta I. M., Montreal, and Prof. Franco Gaspari, of the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Toronto, have done an extraordinary effort to organize and coordinate that rich and effective program, aimed to fostering Meucci's image in Canada as well as to invite dubious people to review their attitude towards the origins of telephony.
